Halloweein In Islam

Do Muslims celebrate Halloween? How is Halloween perceived in Islam? To make an informed decision, we need to understand the history and traditions of this festival.

Religious Festivals

Muslims have two celebrations each year, 'Eid al-Fitr and 'Eid al-Adha. The celebrations are based in the Islamic faith and religious way of life. There are some who argue that Halloween, at least, is a cultural holiday, with no religious significance. To understand the issues, we need to look at the origins and history of Halloween.

Pagan Origins of Halloween

Halloween originated as the Eve of Samhain, a celebration marking the beginning of winter and the first day of the New Year among ancient pagans of the British Isles. On this occasion, it was believed that supernatural forces gathered together, that the barriers between the supernatural and human worlds were broken. They believed that spirits from other worlds (such as the souls of the dead) were able to visit earth during this time and roam about. At this time, they celebrated a joint festival for the sun god and the lord of the dead. The sun was thanked for the harvest and given moral support for the upcoming "battle" with winter. In ancient times, the pagans made sacrifices of animals and crops in order to please the gods. They also believed that on October 31st, the lord of the dead gathered all the souls of the people who had died that year. The souls upon death would dwell in the body of an animal, then on this day the lord would announce what form they were to take for the next year.

Christian Influence

When Christianity came to the British Isles, the church tried to take attention away from these pagan rituals by placing a Christian holiday on the same day. The Christian festival, the Feast of All Saints, acknowledges the saints of the Christian faith in much the same way that Samhain had paid tribute to the pagan gods. The customs of Samhain survived anyway, and eventually became intertwined with the Christian holiday. These traditions were brought to the United States by immigrants from Ireland and Scotland.

Halloween Customs and Traditions

  • "Trick or Treating": It is widely believed that during the Feast of All Saints, peasants went from house to house asking for money to buy food for the upcoming feast. Additionally, people dressed in costumes would often play tricks on their neighbors. Blame for the resulting chaos was placed on the "spirits and goblins."
  • Images of bats, black cats, etc.: These animals were believed to communicate with the spirits of the dead. Black cats especially were believed to house the souls of witches.
  • Games such as bobbing for apples: The ancient pagans used divination techniques to foresee the future. There were various methods of doing this, and many have continued through traditional games, often played at children's parties.
  • Jack-O'-Lantern: The Irish brought the Jack-O'-Lantern to America. The tradition is based on a legend about a stingy, drunken man named Jack. Jack played a trick on the devil, then made the devil promise not to take his soul. The devil, upset, promised to leave Jack alone. When Jack died, he was turned away from Heaven because he was a stingy, mean drunk. Desperate for a resting place, he went to the devil but the devil also turned him away. Stuck on earth on a dark night, Jack was lost. The devil tossed him a lighted coal from the fire of Hell, which Jack placed inside a turnip as a lamp to light his way. Since that day, he has traveled the world over with his Jack-O'-Lantern in search of a resting place. Irish children carved out turnips and potatoes to light the night on Halloween. When the Irish came to America in great numbers in the 1840's, they found that a pumpkin made an even better lantern, and this "American tradition" came to be.

Islamic Teachings

Virtually all Halloween traditions are based either in ancient pagan culture, or in Christianity. From an Islamic point of view, they all are forms of idolatry (shirk). As Muslims, our celebrations should be ones that honor and uphold our faith and beliefs. How can we worship only Allah, the Creator, if we participate in activities that are based in pagan rituals, divination, and the spirit world? Many people participate in these celebrations without even understanding the history and the pagan connections, just because their friends are doing it, their parents did it ("it's a tradition!"), and because "it's fun!" So what can we do, when our children see others dressed up, eating candy, and going to parties? While it may be tempting to join in, we must be careful to preserve our own traditions and not allow our children to be corrupted by this seemingly "innocent" fun. When tempted, remember the pagan origins of these traditions, and ask Allah to give you strength. Save the celebration, the fun and games, for our 'Eid festivals. Children can still have their fun, and most importantly, should learn that we only acknowledge holidays that have a religious significance to us as Muslims. Holidays are not just excuses to binge and be reckless. In Islam, our holidays retain their religious importance, while allowing proper time for rejoicing, fun and games.

Guidance From the Quran

On this point, the Quran says: "When it is said unto them, 'Come to what Allah has revealed, come to the Messenger,' they say, 'Enough for us are the ways we found our fathers following.' What! Even though their fathers were void of knowledge and guidance?" (Qur'an 5:104)
"Has not the time arrived for the believers, that their hearts in all humility should engage in the remembrance of Allah and of the Truth which has been revealed to them? That they should not become like those to whom was given the Book aforetime, but long ages passed over them and their hearts grew hard? For many among them are rebellious transgressors." (Qur'an 57:16)

Islam Condemns Violence

"Not only did the terrorists hijack planes and destroy life, but they also hijacked the peaceful religion of Islam and split the brother and sisterhood of mankind."
(Yusuf Islam)

The sanctity of Human Life

Al- Quran 6:151
“…take not life, which God hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.”

Islam considers all life forms as sacred. However, the sanctity of human life is accorded a special place. The first and the foremost basic right of a human being is the right to live. The Glorious Quran says:

The Last Messenger and the Message of God

All praises and thanks, be to Almighty God, the creator of all that exists. The greatest thing that God has offered humanity is that he provided them messengers chosen from among the best of their kind.
He disclosed and conferred upon man the Revelation to guide everyone towards the truth, the straight path, as well as warn and deliver people from falsehood and evil, such that they would alone seek His pleasure and satisfaction in pursuit of Paradise.

Since time immemorial, God sent prophets after prophets, messages after messages --- dating from Noah to Abraham, Moses, Jesus (Peace be upon all of them) and culminating with the seal of them all, Muhammad (Peace be upon him), who came to confirm not only the previous messengers but especially that of the universal message which calls people to worship the Creator alone.

Al- Quran 2:285

The Apostle believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in God, His angels, His books, and His apostles. "We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His apostles." And they say: "We hear, and we obey: (We seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys."

Virtues of Friday (Jummah Mubarak)

Praise be to Allah.

Friday has many distinguishing features and virtues that Allah has bestowed upon this day and not others.
It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah and Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah led those who came before us away from Friday. The Jews had Saturday, and the Christians had Sunday. Then Allah brought us and Allah guided us to Friday. So there is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and thus they will follow us on the Day of Resurrection. We are the last of the people of this world but we will be the first on the Day of Resurrection, and we will be dealt with before all others.”

Narrated by Muslim, 856.
Al-Nawawi said:

Al-Qaadi said: The apparent meaning is that it was obligatory for them to venerate Friday but this was not stated clearly; the matter was left to their own reasoning… But they did not manage to work it out and Allaah did not guide them to it. It was enjoined clearly upon this ummah, and was not left to their own reasoning, thus they were blessed with it … It was narrated that Moosa enjoined Friday upon them and told them of its virtues, but they disputed with him and argued that Saturday was better, and it was said to him, ‘Let them be.’ Al-Qaadi said: if there had been a clear command, their arguing with him would not have been valid, rather it would have been said to him that they were going against the command. I say: it may be that that was clearly enjoined upon them but they disputed as to whether it was something they had to adhere to or they could change it to another day; they decided to change it to another day and they erred greatly thereby.

How i came to islam

May Allah’s peace be upon you!

My name’s Brunsheska, I am a 22 years old married woman from the USA. I have being asked about Islam in several occasion, and the best answer I came to learn now, is that Allah made his way to me one way or another. I would assume that the first time I truly became very curious about Islam was 11SEP2011, everyone was saying all kind of things about Islam and Muslims including my family members, some of them were talking very bad about Islam and Muslims because of what they heard. I didn’t have the mean to do more research about it at that time. My father wasn’t a big Muslim fan at that time especially with his military background that somehow influenced his interpretation to Islam. Simultaneously, I was affected as well with the media, and I started hating Islam and Muslims with no reason except of what the media wanted me to believe.
Yet, I knew deep in my heart that it can’t be only way of telling a story, and Islam can’t be the cruel. So I started making more research in at a college level, which helped me somehow get a subjective point of view about Islam, contrary to what my classmate were saying, when they ask me about the reasons I want to learn about that religion? I simply answered them that feeling confused about Christianity and I have not find in it the stability that I am looking for.
Couple years later, I’ve met a young Muslim man online his name was Adil and he seemed to be a good person, walked me through Islam believe and answered almost all my questions about Islam. Two years after that I married him, and we are a happily married Muslim couple now. Some thinks that he influenced my beliefs and others thought that I reverted just because of him, that is what they say, but my I’ll say that Allah had his way to communicate with heart, mind and soul, and if god decide to give credit for me and for other person for me to find true answers that I haven’t find anywhere else, who else is better to get them than my husband. After all, who’s better get that and do more good deeds in this life, because I am not looking to live in a small mention in paradise, I want that big castle with the big land, to live happy with my loved husband happily ever after.
To all the other sisters from different religion, don’t get influenced with what you see, read and hear, use your brains and listen to your heart and open your eyes widely; because of Allah is closer to you than you think. Allah said:” you might hate something and it’s good for you”, and Islam is for peace and those people who conducted those attacks and do all the bad things around the world are representing themselves and not a great religion such Islam.
Thanks to god!

Women's Liberation Through Islam

Today people think that women are liberated in the West and that the
women's liberation movement began in the 20th century. Actually, the
women's liberation movement was not begun by women but was revealed by God
to a man in the seventh century by the name of Muhammad (peace be upon
him), who is known as the last Prophet of Islam. The Qur'an and the
Traditions of the Prophet (Hadith or Sunnah) are the sources from which
every Muslim woman derives her rights and duties.

Fatherhood: A Sacrifice and a Trial

Balancing Family and Islamic Work

On Eid-ul-Adha, Muslims commemorate the Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his first-born son at the command of Allah, and how Allah spared his son and made him a Prophet. When Ibrahim told his son that he had had a vision that Allah wanted him as a sacrifice, Ismail agreed to it without hesitation, as the Qur'an narrates:

Then, when the son reached the age of serious work with him, He said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see what is thy view!" The son said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: Thou will find me, if Allah so wills one practising Patience and Constancy!" So when they had both submitted their wills to Allah, and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead for sacrifice, We called out to him, "O Abraham! Thou hast already fulfilled the vision!" - thus indeed do We reward those who do right. For this was obviously a trial - And We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice. (37:102-107)

Respect for Humanity

Respect for Humanity

God tells us in the Qur’an: "We have indeed honored the Children of Adam, and provided for them means of transportation on land and sea, and given them wholesome food and exalted them high above the greater part of Our creation" (17:70).

This shows that man by his very creation deserves regard and respect. This respect is man’s natural birthright, regardless of which community he belongs to.

According to a Hadith: "That person is not one of us who is not merciful to our juniors and respectful to our elders." According to another hadith the Prophet Muhammad said, "One who believes in Allah and the Last Day must honor his neighbors; one who believes in God and the Last Day must honor his guests."

There are a number of such commands to the believers in the Qur’an and the Hadith which lay great stress on showing due respect to the servants of God. For this is an important area in which we are actually being tested on our faith in God. Our love and devotion for God finds expression in this world in the form of our relations with other human beings. One who is a true lover of God has an inner urge to love God’s servants.
Respect for humankind is one of the basic teachings of Islam.

Anyone, be he of one’s own religion or of any other religious tradition, whether he belongs to one community or another; whether he belongs to friendly group or enemy group, in all cases is worthy of respect. According to the teachings of Islam human beings are to be respected, despite their differences. Even where antagonism is displayed, we have to adopt the way of avoidance of conflict and continue to show respectful behavior. In the eyes of Islam all human beings are equal and deserve our respect.

Muslim Women in Sports

Watching Sport

Many sisters find themselves in situations where they will be watching sports on TV, at school carnivals, or going to matches. Stadiums are not advisable places for Muslims in general, because of the language, drinking and scenery. Allah has commanded the believing women to lower their gaze, and sport comes as no exception, especially with guys in shorts.

Muslim Women in Sports

 Self-Defence

Particularly in Western countries, this is an important form of popular exercise. Sisters must be careful to train only with other women, to maintain loose clothing and head cover, and not to attack at the head, as the Prophet (s.a.w) has forbidden us to hit on the face while training.

Muslim Women in Sports

Gyms

Although many women-only gyms have become popular, we have the same problem as with baths, that being in the presence of non-Muslim women. However, as long as loose clothing is worn along with proper head covering, this problem can be avoided.

Muslim Women in Sports

Swimming

In most female-only schools, there are always male teachers around. Hence wearing even body suits is not sufficient, therefore to remove yourself from this activity is the only solution. There are some female-only baths or swimming complexes, yet even this is not suitable for the purposes of Muslim women. The following tradition treats this point:
"Some women from Homs or from Sham (now the area of Damascus) came to 'A'ishah. She asked, 'Do you enter the public baths? I heard the Messenger of Allah saying that a woman who undresses anywhere else other than in her own house tears off the Satr (shelter) which lies between her and her Lord .' " [At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud]
It is not only a problem of Satr, but also revealing yourself to disbelievers, an important point which ssisters are ignoranor careless of. Permission for a Muslim woman to reveal her hair, arms etc. is permitted to her husband, father, mother and so on.
Non-Muslim women are excluded from this permission, because contact with them might easily lead to disastrous results. That is why the Khalif 'Umar wrote to Abu 'Ubaidah Ibn al-Jarrah, the Governor of Syria, to prohibit the Muslim women from going to the baths with the women of the Ahl al-Kitab (the People of the Book). [At-Tabari, Ibn Jazir]. According to Ibn 'Abbas "...a Muslim woman is not allowed to display herself before the women of the unbelievers and non-Muslim poll-tax payers (Ahl al-Dhimmah) any more than she can display herself before other men" [At-Tabari].
This distinction between women on grounds of character and religion is intended to safeguard Muslim women against the influence of women whose moral and cultural background is either not known or is objectionable from the Islamic point of view.

Muslim Women in Sports

The Need for Sport

Men and women alike are in need of sport and exercise. Physical fitness is certainly encouraged, just as a balanced diet is endorsed, and harmful substances are prohibited. Exercise is also conducive to a more balanced emotional state, as it aids in the release of harmful free radicals and excess hormones. Mundane routines must also be broken otherwise it could affect a women's input into society, as well as her relationship with her husband and family.
The Sahaabah were aware of these issues, and would exhort others for the same. 'Ali bin Abi Talib (r.a.a) said: "Refresh your minds from time to time, for a tired mind becomes blind." Abu Darda` (r.a.a) also commented: "I entertain my heart with something trivial in order to make it stronger in the service of the Truth."
The Prophet (s.a.w) advised his followers to engage in many forms of sport, which even today are considered of the best form of exercise. The Prophet (s.a.w) himself would engage in wrestling, racing, archery and horse races.
While Aisha (r.a.a) was on a journey along with the Apostle of Allah (s.a.w), she had a race with him and outpaced him. As time passed, the Prophet (s.a.w) wished to avenge for his loss, so he raced her again, in which case he outpaced her, and remarked: "This is for that outpacing."
The benefits derived from sport can not be denied. Not only do they have physical and social benefits, but also essential psychological consequences. Since sport is also a compulsory part of the curriculum in all schools, it is important to address the many Islamic conflicts that us sisters may face.

The last ten days of Ramadan

1. Take a vacation for Allah.
We take a break from our jobs for almost everything in life. Why not this time to focus on worshiping and thanking our Creator.
If this is not possible at least take a few days off if you can.

2. Do I'tikaf
It was a practice of the Prophet
to spend the last ten days and nights of Ramadan in the masjid for I'tikaf.
Those in I'tikaf stay in the masjid all this time, performing various forms of zikr (the remembrance of Allah), like doing extra Salat, recitation and study of the Quran."

How NOT to Answer Your Wife's Five Trickiest Questions

There are five questions that, for the sake of world peace, wives should really never ask their husbands. They should know better. The sad truth however, is that they DO ask these questions, frequently and with quite an innocent attitude, as if the questions just popped into their heads and do not carry the emotional charge of cluster bombs. So it is extremely important that we husbands should be prepared to answer these questions correctly, so that we do not find ourselves on the wrong ends of blunt instruments.

Why Women Cry

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?"

"Because I need to" she said.

"I don't understand," he said.

His mother just hugged him and said, "And you never will."

Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," his dad answered carelessly.

The little boy, still wondering why women cry, finally asked the old wise shaikh (scholar). "He surely knows the answer", he thought.

"Ya Shaikh! Why do women cry so easily?"

The Shaikh answered:

"When Allah made the woman she had to be special. He made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.

He gave an inner strength to endure both childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.

He gave her a toughness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

He gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child hurts her badly.

He gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart. He gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.

And lastly, He gave her a tear. This is hers and only hers exclusively to use whenever she needs it. She needs no reason, no explanation, its hers.

You see my son, the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the beauty of her face, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."

Pregnancy Woes

Head-to-toe relief for the growing pains of pregnancy

Before you became pregnant, you probably thought that you had an understanding with your body: You were good to it, it was good to you. Now that you’re expecting, however, you find that all bets are off. Your little bundle of joy is calling the shots, and your body is straining to accommodate. Feet are swelling, ligaments are stretching, veins are bulging, and hormones are raging. Simply put, you need help.

LITTLE CURES FOR BIG DISCOMFORTS

ITCHY SKIN
As your skin stretches, it can become dry and itchy.

  • Relief: Slather on moisturizer or cocoa butter after bathing, and avoid harsh soaps, which remove your skin’s natural oils.

FREQUENT URINATION
Your growing uterus presses on your bladder.

  • Relief: By four months, the uterus moves up, relieving the pressure. Meanwhile, keep drinking liquids and don’t wait to urinate — it can lead to a urinary tract infection.

EDEMA
You may retain some fluid — especially around your ankles and feet.

  • Relief: Put your feet up, switch standing and sitting positions often, and don’t cross your legs. If your rings get tight, put them on a chain and wear them as a necklace.

VARICOSE VEINS
Valves that propel blood start to soften, causing the blood to pool and form painful bulges.

  • Relief: Avoid crossing your legs, standing in one position for too long, or wearing anything that cuts off circulation (like knee-high stockings). Support hose may also help soothe the aches.

FATIGUE
Hormonal havoc and the energy it takes to create a baby sap your strength.

  • Relief: Rest often and avoid sugar and caffeine.

LEG CRAMPS
Sluggish circulation causes painful knots.

  • Relief: Gentle massage or stretching (with toes flexed, not pointed) can help relax the muscle. Try stretching your legs before bedtime.

ROUND-LIGAMENT PAIN
Your ligaments stretch to support the growing weight of your womb, causing sharp pains from the top of your uterus down to your pubic bone.

  • Relief: Get off your feet, and support your belly with a pillow when you’re lying on your side. Warm baths are soothing too.

HEMORRHOIDS
These swollen rectal veins result from hard-to-pass bowel movements.

  • Relief: Try ice packs, sitz baths, or witch hazel compresses, and ask your doctor about a stool softener or suppositories.

BACKACHES
Your shifting center of gravity and the increased natural curvature of your spine strain your back.

  • Relief: Stand up straight, and be careful lifting. While sitting, elevate your feet, and use a pillow for the small of your back.

INCREASED VAGINAL DISCHARGE
A clear to yellowish secretion, known as leukorrhea, helps flush bacteria from your vagina.

  • Relief: Wear a light panty shield in your underwear to help you feel fresher, but don’t douche or wear tampons.

DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS
Pregnancy hormones slow some bodily functions, resulting in constipation, indigestion, bloating, and gas.

  • Relief: Eat a diet high in fiber (whole grains, raw fruits and vegetables), drink plenty of liquids, and try to take a walk every day.

NAUSEA
So-called morning sickness — nausea that ranges from mild queasiness to frequent vomiting — can last all day.

  • Relief: Eat small, frequent meals high in protein and carbohydrates, and keep a few crackers by your bed to help settle your stomach before you get up in the morning.

HEARTBURN
Your uterus presses on your stomach, causing acids to back up.

  • Relief: Even when you’re ravenous, eat slowly. Avoid greasy foods and stay upright after meals. Also, try eating yogurt or chewable calcium tablets.

TENDER BREASTS
As your breasts rev up for breastfeeding, they may be slightly swollen and feel sensitive or painful to the touch.

  • Relief: Buy a comfortable and supportive bra (without underwire is best).

HEADACHES
The sudden surge of hormones may cause migraines.

  • Relief: Try hot and cold compresses, temple massage, and fresh air. Acetaminophen is considered safe for pregnant women, but talk to your doctor before taking any drugs.

NASAL CONGESTION
High levels of estrogen and progesterone increase blood flow to the mucous membranes, causing them to soften and swell. Your sinuses may feel extremely dry.

  • Relief: Use a humidifier to loosen congestion, and lubricate the inside of your nose with a little petroleum jelly.

IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE — OR NOT

Early in pregnancy, levels of estrogen and progesterone soar — increasing blood flow and sensitivity in the breasts, vagina, labia, and clitoris — which may turn you into a sexual dynamo. On the other hand, when you’re dealing with nausea, fatigue, and moodiness, you may find sex as appealing as your annual exam. The key for you and your partner is to expect fluctuations in desire, so that when it wanes, you can stay intimate in other ways — by holding hands, snuggling, or giving each other massages.

By the way, there’s no reason to fear that you’ll harm the baby during intercourse. She’s well-protected in her amniotic bubble, and unless you’re at risk for miscarriage or preterm labor (in which case, you should seek your doctor’s advice), sex generally poses no danger whatsoever.

THE EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER

Consider yourself hormonally challenged: During pregnancy, estrogen can climb to 60 times its normal level. In general, higher levels of both progesterone and estrogen can make you feel good, but sometimes the huge fluctuations can also puncture the euphoria. In fact, a wide range of emotional states is perfectly normal — quiet and withdrawn, scared, anxious, elated and excited, easily angered or tearful, ambivalent, worried, and happy. But you can try to stay on an even keel with enough rest, exercise, and communication with your partner.

On the other hand, if your symptoms include prolonged weepiness, anxiety, sleeplessness, guilt, anger, pessimism, or detachment, talk to a professional about pregnancy-related depression. This potentially serious condition can last anywhere from weeks to months, and it can be treated safely with therapy and medicine. Women who experience severe depression during pregnancy are also at high risk of postpartum depression, so this is one condition you don’t want to wait out.

WHEN WOES ARE SERIOUS

With everything your body’s going through during pregnancy, it can be tough to tell which changes are simply uncomfortable and which are dangerous. Don’t hesitate to call your doctor when in doubt. And be sure to talk to her if you experience any of the following symptoms:

EXTREME FATIGUE
A possible sign of anemia, or iron deficiency in the blood.

PERSISTENT VOMITING OR DIARRHEA OR A HIGH FEVER LASTING MORE THAN 24 HOURS
Any of these conditions can cause dehydration, which in turn can damage the baby’s developing organs.

BLEEDING
A possible sign of a miscarriage or of placenta previa.

CONSTANT ABDOMINAL PAIN OR CRAMPING
Symptoms that may indicate an ectopic pregnancy or pending miscarriage.

SEVERE HEADACHES OR SUDDEN, EXCESSIVE SWELLING OF THE HANDS AND FACE
Possible signs of pregnancy-induced hypertension, and preeclampsia.

TREAT YOURSELF

This is one time when everyone will let you enjoy a much-deserved break. Take advantage!

  • Light some candles and soak in the tub.
  • Get your hair washed at a salon.
  • Make a "baby tape" of your favorite music.
  • Rent a tear-jerker and cry your eyes out.
  • Buy yourself flowers.
  • Get a pedicure even if you can’t see your feet anymore.

Safety with Young Children

Safety with Young Children

It requires a lot of patience to take care of an active young child. Children are naturally curious; babies commonly put things in their mouths to test whether or not they are good to eat, and toddlers may put small objects into their nose or ears! Everyone in the family should by aware of safety rules. Every home with an infant or young child should be childproofed, which means that all dangerous items should be out of the child's reach.

Here are some good points to remember:

¥ Children should not be left in the car, or at home alone until they are old enough to take care of themselves in an emergency. Babies and young children must be supervised at all times. Even one-day-old babies have been known to roll themselves off tables. It only takes a few seconds for a disaster to happen!

¥ Keep medicines and poisons safely locked away out of the reach of young children. Special stickers can be bought from the chemist to put on bottles of medicine and poisons. They let children know with pictures and symbols that what is inside the bottle is not good to eat or drink. Cleaning liquids, paints, powders and dangerous chemicals should not be stored inside old food or drink containers.

¥ Keep the number of the doctor, hospital and emergency services near the telephone in case of a serious accident. Every home should have basic first aid supplies on hand; milk, charcoal tablets and syrup of ipecac are especially important since they may be needed at a moment's notice in order to treat accidental poisoning. Keep in mind that the doctor will need to know exactly what the child has swallowed in the case of poisoning, so that he can quickly decide on the best treatment.

¥ Try to learn a few basic rules of first aid - it might save the life of someone you love! Scouting groups, the International Red Cross and other organizations hold special first aid courses for young people where you can learn how to help someone who is choking, drowning, bleeding, or in a dangerous situation.

¥ Electrical sockets and appliances must be protected. Special plugs can be bought for insertion into main sockets so that small children will not be able to stick things into them and electrocute themselves. Never use electrical appliances such a hairdryers and radios where they could fall into the water or someone might splash water on them, such as in the bathroom, next to the baby's bath or near a swimming pool!

¥ Keep sharp and dangerous objects out of children's reach. Small toys or game parts should not be left where babies can pick them up and swallow or choke on them.

¥ If you must baby-sit or watch a younger brother or sister, use your common sense and keep your mind on what you are doing. Toddlers have drowned in the bath in just a few minutes while their older brother or sister left the bathroom to get something, and became distracted by something exciting on TV! Always test the temperature of the bath water with your elbow or inner arm before putting a baby into it; it should feel nice and warm.

DON'T TAKE RISKS; IT IS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.

Nurturing Through Breast Feeding

"We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents: In pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth. The carrying of the (child) to his weaning is (a period of) thirty months. At length, when he reach the age of full strength and attains forty years, he says, 'O my Lord! Grant me that I may be grateful for Thy favor which thou hast bestowed upon me, and upon both my parents....'"
Holy Quran 46:15

Family Life Question: "Breast feeding our new baby will be a new experience for me, and I'm concerned about providing an adequate amount of milk. What are some helpful things to know?"

Dear New Mother:

It is from the breast that "the milk of human kindness" literally flows. Human milk contains thousands of nutrients, some of which are not found anywhere else in nature. It is very specific in its design for the optimum growth and development of the human infant.

Breast feeding is a part of the continuation of life, that is evolving in the manner Allah has ordained. Breast feeding is natural. We have abandoned many of the beautiful natural things that Allah has given to us that would assure the sanctity of human life. We need guidance to adhere to the more natural ways of life that are in accordance with Allah's universal order. "And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage. All is in a cleaner register." (Quran 11:6)

Not only are the physical qualities of breast milk best, the emotional and spiritual bonding that takes place between mother and child is immeasurably vital to life. Breast feeding encourages bonding for the entire family. Allah has given the woman the role of nurturer of life, the role of providing the warmth, comfort, security and compassion that sets life on the best course.

There are many herbal remedies for breast feeding mothers. More than 30 herbs are considered to promote healthy milk producing. Nutritionists advise the widely know herb, fenugreek. Dr. Mohammed El-Shatet of Fouad University in Cairo, Egypt, reports in Mothering magazine (July-Sept. 1988) that fenugreek could increase breast milk production by as much as 900 percent. Mothers who had experienced their babies failing to gain weight found that infants thrived when they began drinking fenugreek tea. Even adoptive mothers have been able to produce milk for their babies after drinking this tea regularly. (3)

The effectiveness of an herbal remedy is dependent upon its preparation. Healing qualities are increased when herbs are grown in a kitchen garden with loving care and without pesticides and herbicides. There are natural pros and cons to using herbs while breast feeding: herbs may flavor milk; some herbs that affect the infant and are as potent as pharmaceutical products; herbal remedies may alter the composition of milk; herbs can influence the quantity of milk. When there is any room for concern, consult a nutritionist and always consult your caring physician.

Breast feeding is one way that Allah has given us as mothers to nurture life and through it, Allah wants us to feed our young ones the physical, emotional and spiritual food vital to life. Studies have revealed that "African" youth who are breastfed and carried about on the mother's back as she goes about through the day are among the youth with the highest intelligence levels in the world.

Kabongo, a Kikiyu chief in Africa, spoke these beautiful words about his mother when he was eighty years old: "My early years are connected in my mind with my mother. At first she was always there; I can remember the comforting feeling of her body as she carried me on her back and the smell of her skin in the hot sun. Everything came from her," as related in Touching the Human Significance of the Skin by Ashley Montagu.

A Muslim Parent

The Child in Islam

Each one of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock. The ruler is a shepherd of his subjects and is responsible for them; a husband is a guardian of his family and is responsible for it; a lady is a guardian of her husband's house and is responsible for it; and a servant is a guardian of his master's property and is responsible for it.” (Bukhari, 3.592)

A Muslim parent should desire both the good of this world and the good of the hereafter for his or her child. If a choice must be made between these two, the life-to-come is eternal and it is the most important goal for us. In practical terms, this may mean giving up or leaving off something that may be seen fine for the child in terms of this world's life but which will lead him to unhappiness Hereafter.

If we ask Allah for guidance in all our affairs, we will be able to know the difference between what is good in the everlasting perspective and what is good only temporarily and materially. In Islam, we do not segregate children out of the world of adults, for our children are integral parts of our world as adults, both in our families and our community.

Our children are born pure and free of sin, but they lack knowledge and experience.

From the Quran and hadith we know that Allah recognizes and takes into account the complexity of rearing children, and we pray that His leniency is greater for those of us who are rearing our children in this extremely difficult time.

Parenting is not a minor, insignificant matter, but a tremendously important, time consuming task for which there is, justifiably, the promise of great reward. It is hoped that more and more Muslim parents will educate themselves about how children develop, take note of their children's unique personalities and abilities, and try to find the best way to rear them accordingly.

Children are a trust from Allah, both a test and a joy. We will be judged according to our intentions and efforts as parents, and we pray that we may be able to make Allah Taala pleased with us and with them.

Kindness & Affection

In their striving to follow the example of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Muslim parents should be kind and affectionate to their children as is naturally expected. The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to kiss his grandchildren and openly display his great affection for them. For example:Once the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) kissed his grandson al-Hasan (R) while a companion named al-Aqra (R) was sitting beside him. At that, al-Agra(R) said,

"I have ten children and I have never kissed any of them." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) glanced at him and said, "The one who is not merciful will not be shown mercy." (Bukhari, 8.26)

This is the Prophet (peace be upon him) - tender, tolerant, endlessly loving to the young of his family and to all humanity. This is the holy Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), whom we love and revere above any other human being and whom we are honoured to take as our example. This is how a Muslim father (or grandfather), husband, and kinsman are supposed to be.May Allah help us to be faithful followers of his blessed example, manifesting love like this in our own lives.

Trust & Test

“And know that your possessions and your children are a test, and that with Allah is a mighty reward. No soul shall be taxed with more than its capacity. No mother shall be injured on account of her child, nor a father on account of his child.” (Quran 8:28; 2:233)

Islam makes it clear that children are, at one and the same time, a blessing, a trust and a test from Allah Taala. That we instinctively love our children and want to protect them and have the best for them, Allah knows. As a rule, children are greatly sough after among Muslims. Many childless couples experience a great feeling of emptiness, and this is a severe test for them.Sometimes we may feel overwhelmed by the seriousness of our responsibility toward our children, especially at this difficult time in history. Allah knows the task He sets before us in each child.

We will surely find within ourselves the patience and love needed; we will find the wisdom, the resources, and all that is necessary to care for this child Allah sent to us. This is part of faith.

GOD's Busy????‏

If you don't know GOD, don't make stupid remarks!!!!!!!A United States Soldier was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.One day the professor shocked the class when he came in the room and lookedto the ceiling and flatly stated, 'God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes.' The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, 'Here I am God. I'm still waiting' It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got outof his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him, knocking himoff the platform. The professor was out cold. The Soldier went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked, stunned, and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, notice ably shaken, looked at the Soldier and asked, 'What the heck is the matter with you? Why did you do that?' The Soldier calmly replied, 'God was too busy today protecting American soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So, He sent me.'

THIS IS GOOD. KEEP IT GOING

And all God's people said -- AMEN!

Best Deeds

Best Deeds

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Mas'ood (may Allah be pleased with him), who observed:
"I asked Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) which deed was the best." He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'The Prayer at its appointed hour.' I (again) asked: "Then what?" He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'Kindness to the parents.' I (again) asked: "Then what?" He replied: 'Earnest struggle (Jihad) in the cause of Allah.' I refrained from asking any more questions for fear of annoying him. (Sahih Muslim: 120)

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) was asked about the best of deeds. He observed: "Belief in Allah." He (the inquirer) asked: 'What next?' He (the Holy Prophet) replied: "Jihad (struggle to the utmost) in the cause of Allah." He (the inquirer) again asked: 'What next?' He (the Holy Prophet) replied: "Pilgrimage accepted into the grace of the Lord." (Sahih Muslim: 118)

Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that I asked the Messenger of Allah: "Which of the deeds is the best?" He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'Belief in Allah and Jihad in His cause.' I again asked: "Who is the slave whose emancipation is the best?" He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'One who is valuable for his master and whose price is high.' I asked: "What if I cannot afford to do it?" He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'Help an artisan or make anything for the unskilled (laborer).' I (Abu Dharr) said: "O Messenger of Allah, you see that I am helpless in doing some of these deeds." He (the Holy Prophet) replied: 'Desist from doing mischief to the people. That is your own charity for your self.'
(Sahih Muslim: 119)

Love of Allah is the basis of worship that should be directed to Him alone. Any other love should be for His sake too. The real love of Allah is to do whatever He ordained and to abandon whatever He forbade, in addition to following the Prophet's Sunnah.

Whoever obeys someone or something other than Allah and His Messenger, or follows any saying other than theirs, or fears other than Allah or seeks the pleasure of other than Allah, or puts his trust in other than Him, does not love Allah, nor does he love His Messenger. Muslims should also love one another and wish the best for one another. Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said:

"One will not be a true believer unless he loves for his brother what he loves for himself." (Bukhari, Muslim, Nasa'i, Ahmed and Ibn Majah)

Imam Malik and Imam Ahmed narrated: Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: "Allah said: My love is due to those who love one another for My sake."

The Ascent

The Ascent

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Everyone in a hurry, no time to spare, short hours and too much work, the day about to end but the jobs only half done; life is brief and plans too long, even Noah's age would be insufficient to cover them; life, like a candle in the wind; existence just begins when old age comes along and with it the fearful echoes of death; the heart sinks at the thought of whether it will be possible to scale the Ascent or not.

That Ascent which has a different meaning for everyone. Man in his impatience, shortsightedness, and cowardice sets for himself such silly goals at which he himself later laughs with derision: the achievement of petty tinsel toys, the satisfaction of his sexual desires, the attainment of the height of fame, having the latest model car, a home in a posh area, to top the ladder of power………..these are all mirages that deflect the mind from the real Ascent. All his mental and physical energies are directed towards the completion of these aims and he is left too limp to try and struggle for the Ascent.

What is the Ascent? The Creator of the worlds has pointed it out thus,
"And why does he not climb the Ascent? And what do you know of the Ascent? To set free a neck (person), or provide food on a hungry day to the orphan relative or the miserable…”

To free a neck from the weight of loans, to release slaves from slavery, to set loose prisoners innocent yet spending hard times behind bars, of those oppressed Muslims who have become a target of terrorism, and those humans who because of their shirk have been marked down for Hell. Those privileged people who had uncovered the secret of Iman, who had shattered the differences of caste, tongue, and nationality, who did not give a hoot for power, fame, or wealth; who believed more in deeds than words; who did not believe in any other super power but Allah, yes, they were the one who scaled this Ascent and scaled it well. They set free millions of compromised people and manumitted thousands of slaves. A single sa'habi of RasulAllah sallallahu 'alaihi wassallam, Hadhrat 'Abdur Ra'hman bin 'Auf, released thirty thousand slaves. If a Muslim got caught all the others became restless until they had him released; and how could they not when before
them was the 'hadith of RasulAllah sallallahu 'alaihi wassallam,

"Feed the hungry, look after the sick, and try to free the prisoners."
(Bukhari)

Likewise they were well versed with the 'hadith,
"Whoever freed a prisoner from the detention of the mushrikeen (idolaters), it is as if he freed me (sallallahu 'alaihi wassallam)"

Who would be the Muslim who ever got news of the imprisonment of RasulAllah sallallahu 'alaihi wassallam and not try to release him? But when our master stresses the need of trying to free a Muslim captive, we feel no stirring of our hearts.

There is no part of the world today where freedom loving and fundamentalist Muslims are not enduring the tortures of imprisonment, these prisoners include men, women, elderly, young, naive boys and innocent girls. They are struck inhumanly on their private parts, their bodies hit with electric shocks, they are hung upside down from ceilings; some of them are tied hand and foot and excreta bound on their faces, others are forced to bark like dogs, some are made objects of ridicule by being paraded naked in front of their captors, some are being raped and others being made objects of tyranny just for saying "Allah!"

These incidents of cruelty are being made public throughout the world by the media, but not one of the 60 Islamic states have issued any strong statement or protest; not one President or Amir felt the need to climb this Ascent. The result was that the people at the receiving end of cruelty, took the wounds of their hearts and minds and walked the only left to them…that of suicide attacks. These attacks struck the tyrants, American airports were inundated with coffins, and fear and the feeling of lack of security tilted the remaining into mental disorders. When the vulture clan started deserting them, this gang of terrorists started thinking of the Islamic army so that a Muslim would be the one to kill a Muslim; he would be the oppressor and the oppressed, he would be the imprisoner and the imprisoned.

It's a wonder that among those answering the call of the formation of an Islamic Army is the country which has opened its borders freely for Zionists, sunk in the pleasures of the flesh they are ready to save the Iraqis, nay, the oppressors of the Iraqis. Has there ever been a greater tragedy in history than when the kuffar declined to help their comrades, not only that, but those already involved started backing out scared by the blaze of suicide attacks not caring for worldly goods but the lives of their soldiers and civilians. At this point in came some reciters of the Kalimah carrying a long list of their services for Islam and Muslims who decided to jump into the blaze to save their Zionist friends.

An effective ruse of Satan and satanic powers is "tazayyan" by which it presents wrong as right and right as wrong. Doubtlessly these powers would have imprinted in the minds of our shepherds the sacredness of this Ascent that they would be climbing. But if they decide to take guidance from the Quran, it will unquestionably enlighten them that this Ascent gets surmounted not with backing the kuffar but by freeing poor, innocent, Muslim prisoners, dressing their wounds, soothing away their hurt, and helping them against ill-mongers.

O slaves of Allah! Never try to climb this Ascent, which on the face of it seems a brilliant success, but will be your downfall in the Hereafter. But try your level best to scale that, the hikers of which are never unrewarded or dishonored by Allah.
